Tony is the founder and CEO of Second Road Pty Ltd. Consulting for more than 20 years, he combines the arts of language, design and creative thinking to help transform corporate cultures through strategic innovation.

Dr Tony Golsby-Smith is the founder and CEO of Second Road Pty Ltd, as well as the architect of the tools and methods that lie at the heart of firm. Consulting for more than 20 years, he combines the arts of language, design and creative thinking to help transform corporate cultures through strategic innovation. Tony is primarily an advisor to boards, chief executives and senior leadership teams, training them in further developing strategic innovation skills and helping them create compelling corporate strategy.

Originally an English secondary school teacher, Tony’s drive to create persuasive arguments for change led him to start consulting in the private and public sector across Australia.

Throughout his career he has worked with a wide range of blue chip clients and agencies, including the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Suncorp, AMP, Leighton Holdings, the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Customs Service and Border Control, the Australian Defense Force and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Tony is also a regular speaker in Australia and North America on business strategy and innovation.

He is among the world’s leading innovators in pioneering tools of visualisation and conversation to solve complex organisational problems for business and government. His doctoral thesis, Pursing the Art of Strategic Conversations, crystallizes the theory of thinking that underpins his work, examining why organisations need to look for alternative roads to the traditional scientific method of analysis in order to address major problems and complex problems and invent compelling futures.

In recognition of his unique work in the corporate and government sector he was awarded the prestigious Visiting Chair of Design at Carnegie Mellon University in 1995. Tony is also a Batten Fellow at the Darden School of Business, based at the University of Virginia, and has an honours degree in English Literature from the University of Sydney, as well as postgraduate qualifications.

He has been published in the Journal of Business Strategy and Rotman Management Magazine and featured in the Australian Financial Review, The Globe and Mail, Business Week, BRW, Qantas Radio, The Australian, ABC Radio National and The Canberra Times.
